It is an endemic of the Northern Black Sea region, listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine in the status of “Unappreciated”. It is an anti-erosion, fodder, and ornamental plant.

On the territory of Ukraine, it is distributed mainly on the Left Bank in the eastern part of the forest-steppe zone, as well as in the riverine areas of the steppe regions. In addition, populations of Dnipro feather grass can be found in Polissia on the birch terraces along the Dnipro River.
